Specifics of stretch fabrics
Stretch is a type of material that stretches perfectly. The name comes from the word stretch, which means “to stretch” in English.
Stretch fabric has a special ability to stretch due to the presence in the composition of elastane fibers from different manufacturers:
- elastane;
- spandex;
- linel;
- dorastan;
- lycra.
The presence of artificial fibers affects the stretch index and varies in the range 1…30%.
Depending on the production technology, fabrics have different tensile properties. They can be divided into two types:
- Mono-stretch (two-dimensional fiber). The elastic component is added either to the main or weft yarn, stretching either in length or in width.
- Bi-stretch (four-dimensional fiber). Elastic component is added to both main and weft yarns, stretching in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
The production of modern elastic fabrics uses both purely artificial materials and in combination with a natural base:
- stretch cotton or stretch cotton is a combination of natural cotton fibers and elastic, one of the most popular materials in clothing production;
- stretch denim or denim is a dense twill weave material based on cotton fibers;
- stretch crepe – a blended fabric based on cotton, silk, viscose or woolen yarns;
- stretch satin – thin and light synthetic material;
- gabardine stretch – a dense non-crumpled wool-based material.
In addition to flexibility and elasticity, the presence of elastane fibers gives the fabric a number of functional qualities:
- tensile strength;
- lightness and thinness;
- dimensional stability;
- resistance to deformation;
- wear resistance;
- resistance to contamination;
- color fastness;
- ease of care and use.
The natural composition of the fabrics guarantees good ventilation of the garment, hygiene and wearing comfort.
The homogeneous composition provides predictable fabric performance, while materials made of heterogeneous fibers are more prone to deformation. Elastane fibers are not as durable as natural cotton fibers and can lose their elasticity over time.
Applications for stretch fabrics
Stretch materials are in demand both in light industry and in domestic use. Due to the high degree of elasticity, stretch products are characterized by increased ergonomics:
- fit perfectly;
- do not block movement;
- provide good thermoregulation;
- do not crumple.
A wide variation of stretch makes it possible to make products for any fashion trends and corporate requirements.
Stretch textiles which are produced from elastic:
- women's and men's clothing;
- underwear;
- hosiery;
- sports outfit;
- swimming suits;
- overalls.
You can buy stretch fabric for the production of medical clothing, uniforms of the HoReCa segment, uniforms of security agencies, police and patrol units.
It is important in the manufacture of workwear that the fabric retains its strength and elasticity with frequent industrial washings and intensive wear and tear during the declared period of operation.
Stretch fabrics from STG
STG provides a wide range of modern stretch materials from the world's leading manufacturers based on long-staple Egyptian cotton in twill and combined (ripstop) weave.
Natural cotton component guarantees the necessary degree of air permeability, hygroscopicity, hypoallergenicity, comfort under conditions of extreme physical exertion.
Synthetic component ensures durability of the finished product:
- polyester gives resistance to physical and mechanical stress, resistance to frequent washings at 60 ° C;
- stretch fiber – flexibility, tactile comfort, form stability and ergonomics.
Ripstop weave is characterized by high resistance to abrasion, tearing loads, mechanical damage.
The twill weave provides good thermoregulation and gives a characteristic gloss.
