Specifics of water repellent fabrics
Synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon, etc.), blended fabrics and natural cotton-based fabrics are used in the production of modern waterproof textiles.
The highest water repellency has fabric with tight twill weaving. Diagonal weave keeps liquids dripping and prevents getting wet.
Waterproof fabric can be:
- rubberized (using natural rubber caoutchouc)
- membrane (porous and non-porous)
- with a special protective finish (WR – water repellent, OWR – oil and water repellent)
In addition to moisture repellency, moisture-repellent fabric for workwear should have a number of functional qualities:
- resistance to general industrial pollution
- resistance to breaking load, abrasion, mechanical damage
- hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and hygienic
- dimensional stability and color fastness
- easy maintenance and resistance to repeated washing
Cotton with water repellent impregnation is characterized by good air permeability and increased tactile comfort. Synthetic threads make the finished product more durable and wear-resistant.
Applications for water repellent fabrics
Water repellent fabrics are widely used in various industries and households. Waterproof rubberized, membrane or hydrophobic impregnated fabrics are used in production of:

STG offers a wide range of waterproof materials. Water-repellent clothing fabric made from long-staple Egyptian cotton. The OWR finish creates an oil and water repellent barrier and protects against dust penetration.
Depending on application, waterproof fabric may have additional properties: fire resistance, antistatic, acid resistance.
Manufactured products are characterized by high physical, mechanical and protective qualities, resistance to shrinkage, increased comfort and presentable appearance.
